About Us
Craftsmen Scott and Neil Hyde have long held a great reputation for their beautiful, bespoke, contemporary and traditional furniture and kitchens, handmade in Norfolk. Now the brothers are delighted to unveil their brand new Norwich showroom, Hydes. We find out more.
Who are you and what do you do?
We're Neil and Scott Hyde, of Hyde Furniture, designers, craftsmen and cabinet makers. We make handmade furniture and kitchens, from mirrors to chests, tables, chairs, cupboards, dressers, sideboards and fitted or free-standing kitchens. We specialise in oak, but do work in alternatives too. We set up business together in 1999 and our workshop is based in south Norfolk.
Tell us more
We can make whatever customers would like, within reason. If they see a table or other item in our showroom and want to buy it and take it away, they can and we are very happy for people to buy from our display. If the client would like larger, higher, wider or a different colour to match, or to match something they already have, or with different upholstery, we will make it to their specification.
And kitchens?
We make quality bespoke kitchens, totally unique to the customer and exactly what they require. Because we are a small company we give a very personal service, and we take care of everything from design and making to installing, organising the electrics, lighting, plumbing and the appliances. Our after-salescustomer care is excellent. We want our customers to be completely satisfied.
A custom-built kitchen sounds expensive-does it take ages?
Our kitchens start from about £15,000,which we feel is very reasonably priced for an individually designed, handmade kitchen. From deposit to kitchen completion is normally 10-12 weeks, and styles range from contemporary to traditional, hand-painted to natural oak finishes.
And why do you like working with wood?
We use European and English oak from sustainable forests. The oak arrives in rough sawn timber, with the bark still attached and we love creating beautiful pieces of furniture from bare pieces of wood. Some people may want a contemporary style with no knots, someone else may want the character and look of antique oak and we choose each piece of oak to suit what we're making.
